What Is There To Do Near…

…Yurtshire Fountains!

We’ve had a number of calls over the last week or say asking what there is to do near to our Yurtshire Fountains site. With that in mind, here is a great list of nearby things to do, with the family, this summer holidays!

The National Trust is an institute here in the UK & our Yurtshire Fountains site is fortunate enough to be close to two of the best sites in the country! Fountains Abbey is a stones throw down the road and is world famous. Explore the abbey, have a brew in the coffee shop, enjoy walking for miles through the site & further into Studley Royal Park too. It’s the perfect place to explore at any time of year, whether you’re having a picnic on the banks of the river, or snuggling in the cafe with a hot chocolate, admiring the views. Brimham Rocks are balancing rock formations in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Beauty. Children of all ages will love to climb them, taking the off-the-beaten-track route for a real adventure! Many of the formations have been named & if viewed from the right angles, you can see why. We love the Dancing Bear! Fans of the Bee Gees may recognise the location from the ‘You Win Again’ music video whilst those who enjoyed kids TV show Knightmare might have seen a scene shot here too!

Newby Hall in Ripon isn’t far away either. With an adventure playground, a miniature railway, a dollshouse exhibition & plenty of local food & drink to eat, there is something for everyone. The city of Ripon is also a pleasant place to visit, with lots of shops & cafes. The Cathedral is a spectacular site to see Why not purchase some delicious meat from Appleton’s Butchers in the market square to take back for a BBQ. You have to try one of their famous pork pies too! Ripon also has a racecourse nicknamed The Garden Racecourse with plenty of fixtures throughout the summer, including a beer festival in September!

For those of you who are thrill seekers, Lightwater Valley theme park is close by as well. Save on your ticket prices by booking online to enjoy activities for all ages including the Angry Birds Activity Park & Europe’s Longest Roller Coaster! The rides are great, we’ve had many a fun ride on the Falls Of Terror! They also have a fabulous firework display in October! Bolton Abbey is slightly further away in Wharfdale but is well worth the visit. It’s synonymous for it’s stepping stones, which are challenging & exciting, but for those of you not wanting to risk getting wet, there is a bridge! Whether you choose to explore the ruins, wander through the woodland trails or enjoy the views of the River Wharf, it’s a great family day out!

So there you have it, a small selection of the exciting things you can enjoy this summer. Book your yurt, use us as a base & have daily adventures nearby, before returning to the peace & quiet of your own yurt every evening. We look forward to welcoming you to Yurtshire!
