Beautiful National Trust Sites to explore when staying at Yurtshire

30 March 2022 by

Yorkshire is blessed with beautiful scenery, rolling landscapes and of course stunning National Trust Sites. Step back in time to some medieval ruins, explore grand historic homes and ramble the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales with the National Trust.

Our yurtshire sites are less than an hour from some of the best National Trust sites in Yorkshire and we’ve gathered the must-visit sites for your upcoming Yurtshire stay!

Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden

One of the most local and popular hotspots for our Yurtshire guests has to be the beautiful Fountains Abbey.

These ancient abbey ruins and awe-inspiring water gardens make the perfect Summer hot spot for a picnic. Explore the atmospheric ruins that remain or wander the elegant water garden of mirror-like ponds, statues and follies. Not forgetting the Riverside paths that lead to the deer park, home to Red, Fallow and Sika deer and ancient trees; limes, oaks, and sweet chestnuts.

You can bring your dog here too! Just keep it on it’s lead.

Brimham Rocks

The natural spectacle of Brimham Rocks, with its giant rock formations, was created by an immense river 100 million years before the first dinosaurs walked the earth, and a visit to this amazing landscape is truly a journey into pre-history.

The rocks, sculpted by 320 million years of movement of entire continents as well as hundreds of thousands of years of ice, rain and wind, have taken on weird and wonderful shapes and with a little imagination, they resemble familiar creatures.  Visitors are free to explore the site, spotting the Dancing Bear, the Gorilla, the Eagle and the Turtle, whilst the more nimble can crawl through the Smartie Tube and balance on the Rocking Stones.

East Riddlesden Hall

Historic house and intimate gardens, a hidden oasis on the edge of a West Yorkshire town.

Hundreds of years ago this West Yorkshire manor was a thriving farming estate. Today the house tells tales of the ambition, success, and failure of those who lived and worked here and the barn displays the 400-year-old markings of proud craftsmen.

The gardens can be enjoyed at any time of the year, and seasonal highlights include the scented herb border in spring, cottage garden flowers in summer and trees laden with apples, pears and figs in autumn. The play area, mud pie kitchen and den building corner give opportunities for families to come together and enjoy the outdoor natural play.

East Riddlesden Hall is the perfect place to spend a morning or afternoon.

Yorkshire Dales

Both our Fountains and Eavestone Lake site are on the doorstep of the Yorkshire dales! Enjoy picturesque villages, drystone walls, flower-filled hay meadows and the characteristic rolling hills of the Dales.

Rolling countryside with steep-sided valleys, vast heather-covered moorland hilltops and a patchwork of dry stone walls and barns. It can be wild and windswept one day and quiet and calm the next. Whatever the weather this limestone scenery is a great place for stretching your legs on a walk, by bike or simply enjoying the large open spaces and far-reaching views.
